Ceramic Tubular Membranes

Tami industries "INSIDE CéRAM" ceramic tubolar membranes:

As an Italian distributor, SEPRA makes available the wide range of tubular ceramic membranes developed by TAMI Industries, one of the world's leading manufacturers.

"INSIDE CéRAM" membranes (patented ATZ support in mixed oxides  active layer in zirconium oxide or in titanium oxide) are built with the purest materials and are available with a degree of porosity ranging from narrow ultrafiltration to larger microfiltration. The standard porosities are the following:


fine UF: 1 - 3 - 5 - 8 kD
UF: 15 - 50 - 150 - 300 kD
MF: 0.14 – 0.2 – 0.30 – 0.45 – 0.8 – 1.4 micron

"INSIDE CéRAM" ceramic tubular membranes can be used in extremely difficult conditions:

  • Maximum temperature = 250°C
  • Resistance to solvents: total
  • Maximum pressure = 10 bar
  • Cleaning with NaOH (pH = 14) at 85°C
  • Cleanhing with HNO3 (pH = 0) at 50°C
  • Cleaning with NaOCl (300 ppm)
  • Hot sterilization (water or steam)

Many configurations are available, with the possibility of varying the number and diameter of the channels and the length of the element. Standard configurations are summarized in the following table:

Tami industries "ISOFLUX" tubolar ceramic membranes:

The Tami Industries range offered by Sepra, comprising tubular ceramic membranes, recently acquired the "ISOFLUX" versions, with an active, variable-thickness layer.

One of the process issues typical of cross-flow microfiltration is high pressure drop in the channel in relation to operating pressure; because of this, input pressure can be very different from output pressure. The driving force of the process and thus permeation varies greatly between the input and output sections.

Tami Industries has developed and patented the ceramic membrane "ISOFLUX", which solves this problem. The thickness of the active layer is greater in the input section and gradually decreases towards the output section; in this way constant permeability may be obtained, without the need of sophisticated and unreliable external control systems.

This solution is found to be particularly effective in all microfiltration applications in which it is necessary to remove small particles that would tend to form a dynamic layer on the membrane from a solution to be purified.

A typical case is that of the sterilization/disinfection processes on food products (e.g. milk and whey) or pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. fermentation broths).

Tami industries "filtanium" tubolar ceramic membranes:

In some applications, the purity of the ATZ support is not yet sufficient for the requirements of the product to be treated. Tami Industries and SEPRA thus propose the Tami Industries "FILTANIUM" versions of tubular ceramic membranes.

These are built with just one, very pure material: titanium oxide.

A typical case is that of pharmaceutical processes in which there are extreme problems of contamination, even at very low percentage levels.

The "filtanium" membranes are also applicable in those processes where there is the presence (continuous or non-continuous) of hydrofluoric acid, the only compound that will attack the ATZ-type substrate.

The following table shows the total compatibility of "filtanium" membranes with the widest range of reagents.
